The Winner

Love Rob Corddry? I bet Fox does. With decent ratings, his new show (the show he left The Daily Show for), The Winner is doing pretty well. Corddry plays Glen Abbott, a successful 42-year old, narrating the story of his late-blooming life as a 30-year old still living with his parents. Keir Gilchrist plays his sidekick, an actual 13-year old. He is a mature kid but not too mature and Corddry is immature but also innocent making the show more fun than stupid.

The 3rd episode in which Abbott thinks he has AIDS reminded me of a recent episode of The Sarah Silverman Program but with content that is far less inappropriate and offensive. On Silverman's show (hilarious but with humor for those with specific taste), she thinks she is HIV positive and basically mocks the virus. Abbott simply thinks that he has contracted AIDS because his cat scratched him after being diagnosed with Feline AIDS.

The Abbott parents are hilarious as a bickering couple who clearly made some mistakes in raising their son...at least until he is 30.

It is fun to watch Corddry in this new role but he is very missed as a reporter for The Daily Show. Congrats Rob and good luck!

On another note, comedian Richard Jeni has passed away. Comedy Central offers a page of links to tributes here.
